What's new?
The past week hasn't been very busy. We're becoming more friendly with the local Bahá'ís. And by that I mean forming friendships as opposed to acquaintances – Thaddeus-style. CJ has plans to make cheescake with Rosemary. Ilva is going to take us to the Marriot for breakfast tomorrow morning. She stopped by for our weekly devo this morning. We visited Gene's house ... She has a wonderful home, wonderful garden, wonderful family. All her children are brilliant stars - intelligent and loving. Her husband is very honourable and a great father. They have special spiritual family time every week.
Tonight CJ and I drove out to Sandy Point for the last night of this Hosanna 2006 two-week concert, put on by Rebecca's church. This nights theme was rap/hip-hop. It really reminded me of NEBY Fest because it was hip-hop based on sincere respect and love for a Manifestation of God. The artists were trying to get the hestitant audience on their feet - nothing astonishing, but it certainly reminded me of all the performances at NEBY ... which is going on this very weekend! For a while, I felt like I wasn't missing it. One of the artists, SAVO from Tortolla, really spoke to both CJ and me. We both had the thought to let him know about Bahá'u'lláh. After waiting for the drawn-out bring-the-lost-souls-back-to-grace session to end, we approached him. He asked if we were saved. We told him we're Bahá'ís and about Bahá'u'lláh, the Glory of God. It's didn't phase him... no loss.
My last post was borering on melancholy. I am still coughing a lot and can't figure out why, but I'm in high spirits.

Funny you should mention the hip-hop at Neby because there was almost none this year. It was a nice change. There was a variety of other types of music though. Good stuff.

They did talk about junior youth activities. I think that because most of the audience was 15 and up they focused more on what the youth are supposed to be doing, but they did talk about the importance of being trained as animators and then taking junior youth through the junior youth courses and then going through the main sequence when they reach 15.
And of course, we were all over the fact that youth told us in the survey that experiences shape their identity and that youth who were active in the past were more likely to be active in the present. We then corrolated those two results and shared that we believe that the sooner children and junior youth are given an active role in the community, the more likely they are to stay active in the Faith, and with the recent guidance that means going through the sequence of Ruhi courses, and DOING THE PRACTICES, which is children's classes, junior youth animators, teaching plans, devos, home visits, and then study circles.
... and we may have played eye of the tiger when we came on stage and did a little improv dance to it. And Ken Bowers may have referenced that and wished that it was played for him too. And then the tech guys may have played it during his talk multiple times as well....
Awesome!
...especially the Eye of the Tiger thing.
